Typical System Architecture

The typical architecture of automation within a Fab (Semiconductor Fabrication Plant) is to have several vertically integrated layers of software.

Communication between the bottom layer and the integration layer is via an industry specific communication standard called SECS (Semiconductor Equipment Communication Standard). This standard has been refined over the years; the first major refinement being the development of the GEM (General Equipment Model) and then more recently with 300mm specific additions to SECS. The SECS standard has also evolved from communication over serial lines (RS232) to communication over IP networks.

At Gnostic Systems we are highly experienced in the following commercial software packages used to model, design and implement a Factory System Architecture:

  • WorkStream
  • PROMIS
